Canoe Restaurant is very close to the city, yet when you are there you feel like you have gone out for a fine dinning experience at the cottage or maybe even camping for the weekend. The sign in front and in the back of the building are "Las Vegas show time" bright, with big bulbs outlining each letter. And the back is beautifully landscaped with wonderful floral gardens and a large organic vegetable garden. The view is the Chattahoochee River with benches and lounge chairs along the river and an outside bar. Instantly the patron is in an calm, non-chaotic setting, removed perhaps from their realities.

Canoe Restaurant and Caribou Coffee both offer an escape from reality with their building design and layout. Caribou Coffee is built with a lot natural materials and makes the consumer feel like they are escaping the pressures of reality to enjoy a cup of coffee in a quite coffee shop up in the mountains in a log cabin. The inside decor is very comfortable and quant, with low intimate, but readable lights, alongside natural light from the windows.
Flip Burger was the first burger boutique to pop up in Atlanta's restaurant scene, and soon followed Yeah! Burger. Unlike the conventional burger joint, Flip Burger's design is modern, with bright colors and bold graphics. The inside is designed in such a way that one would feel as of they are in a lounge and not a dirty old burger joint. As Chase mentions in his article Flip Burgers design would be a response to culture and consumption. There is a large market of people who want to eat burgers and enjoying eat burger, but when you go to an fast food chain or old burger joint, you do not feel good about your eating choice. To sit in Flip Burger the consumer feels better about their decision to have a burger because it may "appear" to have healthy options, although Yeah! Burger does. The design and decor on the inside put you in a different state of mind and appears to the culture that wants to be edgy and trendy.
You've not followed the assignment: a new building paired with an old one. Rather, we have three examples of contemporary design. That said, I like what you've done--and some of the conclusions you reach, especially in your analysis of Flip Burger. Be sure to answer the assigned questions!
