Brandon Collins: Assignment Three

This is an abandoned Winn-Dixie strip mall on Roswell Road. The actual grocery store has been transformed into a gym, and in the corner that cannot be seen, there is a Chinese buffet. The parking lot is vast and empty, except for the spaces nearest to the gym. Interestingly, there is also a very dated McDonald's and a gas station which has been turned into a car wash inside this strip mall, too.

Also on Roswell Road, this former gas and service station has been modified into a dry cleaning business. The service bays are full of cleaning supplies, and the area around the pumps has been turned into a drop-off and pick-up area for one's laundry. I was surprised by the number of dilapidated buildings in this area that are being used as totally different businesses.

This car wash used to be a Pizza Hut, and is directly across the street from the former gas station turned dry cleaners. The parking lot has been redesigned into a turn-around area where the vehicles are washed. The inside looks identical to an old Pizza Hut, but the booths have been removed.

  1. Much better! Your captions should be richer, still, and explain to the general reader why these building have been abandoned, why reused, what the change in kind of tenant and kind of client might be--that is address a much wider range of issues. But overall, good sites, good photos.
