Both of these buildings have elements of the California style coffee shop identified by Landon in “Orange Roofs.” Both have obvious and adequate parking areas and moderate prices. On the interior, both restaurants have booths and tables to provide seating choices to allow for the patron’s preference.
Building One: This Burger King in Sandy Springs is from the 1980s or 1990s. This Burger King has a playground in the front, typical of fast food restaurants of the 1980s and 1990s. The roofline and exterior standout from the buildings surrounding it, because it is painted an eye catching color to identify it with a national chain. Burger King updated its color scheme to include blue in the 1990s, from the earlier orange and brown. The interior has the look of being renovated, but still features the florescent lighting of an earlier establishment.
Building Two: McDonalds circa 2000s. The facade has stonework and a more modern look than the Burger King. The construction utilizes more natural materials in its construction to identify with modern home styles to appeal to more customers. The interior has darker fabrics and wood. It also softer lighting and more stainless steel than laminate that can be found in older stores such as the Burger King. The stainless steel projects a cleaner and more sanitary look that also appeals to modern customers
