Assignment 10.1: Simone

This building was a recycling plant that has clearly been abandoned for some years now since the natural environment is reclaiming itself. The surrounding neighborhood is very much so abandoned, however, Adair Park is close to this plant on Sylvan Road, and is a neighborhood filled with strategic neighbors and perhaps gentrifiers. This recycling plant and the Adair Park neighborhood are both located along the rail road and in close proximity to downtown Atlanta. This plant really speaks to pastness because it brings you back to a time when the homeless would collect cans for money as big business. States used the money back program as an incentive so in a way they did not have to cary out the responsibility of recycling and relied on the homeless to do it for them. As this became less popular recycling plants probably started to close down as a result of no longer being profitable. Either way the oldness of this site offers you an escape into a time where there were different values and symbols. I could see this site being revitalized into modern loft spaces for work and/or live. A lot of the loft spaces in this area are being used as artists factories and this building fits in with that.
