Assignment 9: Grace Lynis

SOHO - Townhomes Kirwood

The SOHO Condominium is an un-gated corner property, located on Memorial Drive in Kirkwood, near the western border of the East Lake community. This group of three, three story buildings of modern design, has a striking architectural style that separates it from the surrounding neighborhood of mid twentieth century, single family detached houses.

The property appears to have been developed since 2004. It is well maintained and the exterior amenities include, garages, terraces and suburban architectural landscape design.

The approach when driving west on Memorial Drive, the complex appears on the right side. It is immediately recognizable by its visual departure from the surrounding landscape. The strength of this project is that it clearly communicates a localized interpretative mix of eclectic international avant garde styling, with the subtle urgency of an urban pioneering sense of purpose.

The asymmetrical facade prominently features cantilever rooflines. The dramatic use of steel, glass, concrete and pastel colored siding create a visual narrative that says, “If you live here, then you too can live in a constellation of thinkers, from the yuppie wannabee-a-hipster stardom.”

The name SOHO means South of Houston Street. However, perhaps here in Atlanta, SOHO means South of Hosea Williams. Now that my friends could work!

Especially if this property was developed by Mr. Williams’ family.

However. Surely, I jest...

Realtor listing signs are located on both street elevations of the property and advertise the offering price, website and contact information.
