Assignment 9: Sarah Kurtz

LaVista Cooperative Homes are garden apartments located off of LaVista Road NE. The community is located down a long drive, sitting back from the street far enough to not be seen. The apartments range from studio spaces, to two bedroom townhomes, to three bedroom gardens. Though on a main street, LCH is in a neighborhood setting. The two-story complex has a mix of federal and French styles, with mansard roofs and brick facades. There are lush trees, wide roads, and some apartments have individual garden and patio areas. The apartments were built twenty to twenty-five years ago. The name of the complex is probably not original and does not fit the setting. LCH is actually a smaller complex of a larger business, Atlanta Cooperatives.

I did not see a lot of people out this afternoon though it was a very nice day. The community is quiet and peaceful. It appears most of the tenants are older, upper-class professionals with no children. The complex is well-maintained with shared trash, pool, and mailbox amenities. A chain linked fence surrounds the back and both sides of the space. There are a few speed humps and the roads curve and twist around the buildings.

Within walking distance is a shopping center with many essential-needs stores. Sidewalks provide easy access to public spaces on the main road. Though secluded from through traffic, certain areas of the apartments are visible from the street.
